On June 6, Kyushu Electric Power Co. (Kyuden) announced that they will purchase electricity back from households with solar panels at a new rate of ¥7 per kilowatt hour after the existing feed-in tariff (FIT) system for renewable energy comes to an end. The FIT was introduced in 2009 and the purchase price was initially set at ¥48 to encourage interest in renewable forms of energy. Kyuden set the new lower rate in line with current market trends outlined by the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX). Source: The Sankei News, 6/7/2019
