Kyushu Electric Power has acquired the rights to purchase liquefied natural gas from Chevron’s Wheatstone project in Australia. Kyushu Electric will be able to purchase 130,000 tons of LNG starting in FY 2017. The utility will also buy a 1.83% stake in the gas fields related to Wheatstone and a 1.46% share of an LNG processing plant in that country. It is the first time Kyushu Electric has acquired the rights to LNG.
