Kyushu and Okinawa’s Economic Recovery Pace Stagnates

The pace of economic recovery in Kyushu and Okinawa is showing signs of slowing, according to the Bank of Japan’s latest “Short-Term Economic Survey of Enterprises in Japan” (Tankan). The index for all industries in these regions remained steady at plus 21 points, with no change from the previous survey. This survey, which gathered responses from over 1,000 companies between February 27 and March 29, indicates a halt in the gradual improvement seen over seven consecutive periods previously. Both the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors maintained their previous scores of plus 7 and plus 28, respectively. The Bank of Japan highlighted that while the survey results suggest the economy continues to recover at a moderate pace, the static nature of these latest figures points to a potential deceleration in economic growth, underscoring the need for ongoing detailed analysis as the economic landscape evolves.
