Local Kyushu companies are anxious to establish a presence overseas, particularly in Asia, and this requires hiring people from those countries. Yet the employment of foreigners studying in Japan by local companies is lagging. To deal with this issue, the Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade, and Industry has launched a series of training programs and internships for foreign students at local companies. The objective is to have the students understand Japanese corporate culture and to provide the companies with opportunities to hire those students.
