Kyushu Could Suffer Indirectly from Lehman Bankruptcy


The Nishinippon Shimbun asked local economists to comment on the effect the Lehman Bros. bankruptcy in the U.S. might have on Kyushu. Most economists held the view that the direct effect on the region would be limited, because the ties between the company and Kyushu are slender. They also warned, however, that a downturn in the American economy could depress external demand, which would impact Kyushu indirectly.
