With minimal rain since the rainy season, there are concerns over water shortages throughout Kyushu. The Japan Water Agency has established a task force for the Egawa and Terauchi Dams on the Chikugo River and has placed limits on the amount of water that can be drawn from three dam reservoirs in Oita Prefecture where water levels have fallen to about 40%. That being said, there are few dams where immediate water supply restrictions are needed. With the hot weather and scant precipitation expected to continue, local governments are calling for residents to conserve water. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, Aug. 20
