Kyushu Electric Could Ask for Cutbacks on Energy Consumption

Kyushu Electric Power President Toshio Manabe said at a news conference that if the authorization to restart two reactors at the Genkai power plant in Saga Prefecture is delayed until summer, the utility will ask large-lot users to cut back on consumption as a way to avoid rolling blackouts. President Manabe said that initial calculations suggest a power shortage of more than 10%. Kyushu Electric would ask factories and other sites more than a month in advance to modify their operating hours or increase their number of off days.
