Kyushu Electric Power President Toshio Manabe said at a press conference that he would ask all consumers, including factories, office buildings, and general households, to cut power consumption for a period that could last from mid-July to mid-September. With two nuclear reactors currently idled at Genkai-cho, and a third scheduled for a periodic inspection this month, they are now formulating a policy that they will make public in mid-June. They are asking for reductions in consumption rather than procure more thermal energy sources, such as oil or liquid natural gas.
