The Kyushu District Transport Bureau reports that traffic on the high-speed ferries sailing between Kyushu/Yamaguchi Prefecture and South Korea in the first half of FY 2011 fell to 375,667, a 33.3% year-on-year decline and the first drop in two years. The combination of the nuclear accident at Fukushima and the high yen resulted in a 48.9% plunge in South Korean passengers. Seven companies in both countries are operating jetfoils on routes between Fukuoka City and Busan and Shimonoseki and Busan.
