Kyushu’s 17 regional banks have decided to join together to provide more than 100 million yen in loans to Kyushu Electric. The suspension of nuclear power plants is causing the utility to spend a substantial amount of money for thermal power generation. The banks view the loans as a way to support the regional infrastructure. It is unusual for the Kyushu regional banks to provide funding support independently as a group.
