The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries released its 2013 Crop Situation Report on Aug. 30. Favorable weather conditions after the rainy season led to “somewhat good” ratings for the prefectures of Saga, Oita, Miyazaki and Kagoshima, while Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Kagoshima received “average” ratings. The Crop Situation Index, a prediction of crop yield based on the average year standard of 100, was 99 in Miyazaki due to low temperatures in late June, but 104 in Kagoshima, whose crops managed to escape typhoon damage.
