Kyushu University’s Hakozaki Campus as New Urban Space

The site of Kyushu University’s Hakozaki Campus was put forward as a location for urban regeneration. The possibility of favourable tax rates and relaxed building regulations are expected to generate interest from private developers. Officials hope that the move will bring in new investment for redevelopment and construction projects. Discussions have been taking place to decide how to effectively use the land that will be left over once the campus has relocated to the university’s newest site in Itoshima. Urgent urban regeneration has already been proposed in areas around the Port of Hakata, JR Hakata Station, and Island City. In total, 53 sites across the country were put forward for consideration.
