Coca-Cola West have installed Kyushu’s first energy efficient vending machine in Hakata Station. In summer, the machine’s energy usage will be 95% less compared to regular vending machines. The new technology will cool drinks at night time and stop the cooling mechanism during the day. The new machines can maintain a low temperature without using energy for a maximum of of 16 hours. Even during the winter, drinks can be served hot or cold, while saving 68% of energy. Coca-cola plan to replace 2,200 of its 75,000 vending machines in Fukuoka, Saga and Nagasaki with the new machines by summer. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Jan 9
