The 2021 survey on family income and expenditure declared Miyazaki City to eat the most gyoza in Japan. With the average expenses on gyoza of ¥4,184* per family (household with two or more persons), Miyazaki surpassed other “gyoza cities” such as Hamamatsu (¥3,728) and Utsunomiya (¥3,129) by a significant margin. Miyazaki launched a gyoza association 20 years ago to promote local dumplings made of pork, nira Chinese chive, cabbage, and so on. *The figure doesn’t include in-restaurant gyoza expenses and purchases of frozen products.
