The Nippon Coke and Engineering Co. is considering an expansion of its coke furnaces in Kitakyushu in anticipation of increased steel demand after an economic recovery. The facilities are now capable of annual production of 2.10 million tons, and the company is thinking of raising that to 3.30 million tons. They are now conducting an environmental impact report for Kitakyushu. The company says they haven’t made a decision yet, but they want to ensure a quick response to future demand.
