The Nishi-Nippon Railway Co. (Nishitetsu) of Fukuoka City said their preliminary calculations suggest the impact of the Tohoku earthquake on their consolidated revenue for the current fiscal year could total 4.4 billion yen. The primary causes are the effects on businesses involved with international distribution and the decline in the utilization rate of Tokyo hotels. The company also said an electricity shortage in Kyushu due to the shutdown of the Hamaoka nuclear power plant could worsen the impact.
