A two-year survey on hot springs sources in Beppu City will start in June. The city in Oita Prefecture is famous for its natural hot springs. The city is dotted with approximately 2,300 onsen sources, however, a decrease in the volume of water and its temperature has been detected over the past thirty years. To secure the sustainability of those hot springs, the city, and the prefecture will spend ¥140 million and to conduct research on all of the water sources in the city for the first time.
