Okinawa’s Ryubo Group Leverages NFTs to Boost Tourism

Ryubou Group, the proprietor of Okinawa’s sole department store, is branching out into the digital assets arena, leveraging non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The Group’s NFT marketplace, ‘Ryukyuverse,’ is scheduled for a September launch and offers customers the chance to purchase unique, high-value products like limited-edition Awamori (a type of rice liquor) and ownership rights to cattle and Acerola cherry trees. Also, customers can access special experiences such as touring the production process. The plan aims to boost the appeal and value of Okinawan products and experiences, draw more global attention to the region, and improve the earning potential for local producers. Jeffries, a U.S. investment bank, predicts that the NFT market could swell to over $80 billion by 2025. Source: Ryubo Shoji / Ryukyuverse / Nikkei
