One Year On: Ukrainians in Fukuoka Still Require Support

It has been one year since Russia began its military invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainians are still living in evacuation in various parts of Kyushu and Okinawa, requiring continuous support in areas such as finding new homes, employment, and learning Japanese. As of February 20, there were 142 Ukrainians in Fukuoka Prefecture, making it the fourth-highest in Japan after Tokyo, Osaka, and Kanagawa. There were 116 Ukraine-related inquiries received by the Fukuoka Foreign Residents Consultation Center from March of last year to the end of January, with “housing-related consultations” being the most numerous at 35. Food distribution, hospital attendance, and “life-related consultations” were the next most numerous at 33, followed by “visa-related consultations” at 17. Source: NHK
