Boston University Medical School Professor Emeritus Osamu Shimomura, one of three recipients of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2008, has written an autobiography that will be published by Nagasaki Bunkensha in Nagasaki City. Shimomura, who spent his childhood in Sasebo, received the prize for his role in the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein. The book, which was written from January to June this year, describes the research for which he received the award, as well as his experiences during the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and the postwar period.
