Outrage Over Nail-Scattering Prank on Highway

A disturbing prank has persisted for several years in Kitakyushu City, where a large number of nails have been found on a national highway near Hirao Plateau in Kokura Minami Ward. This situation has caused concern and frustration among local residents. The nails have been discovered along a 5-kilometer stretch of National Route 322, starting from the Hirao Plateau entrance intersection. A man who volunteers in cleaning activities mentions that they began appearing about five years ago and the situation has alarmingly worsened. Nails found range from round-headed to screw-type nails, with the longest measuring about 12 cm. Reports of vehicles getting flat tires after running over these nails have become increasingly common, posing a serious risk to drivers. Police are aware of the outrageous situation and have been seen patrolling the surrounding roads cautiously. They believe that someone is likely scattering the nails and are investigating possible violations of the Road Traffic Act and the Waste Disposal Act, in an effort to put an end to this irresponsible behavior.
