Porcelain Used for Light-Emitting Signage

The Tsutsuya Tachigama kiln of Nagasaki Prefecture has developed signage for directing people in public places to emergency exits made with porcelain. The signs store light emitted from illumination or the sun and emit that light in dark areas. They developed a new technology for baking light-emitting pigments on porcelain tiles and applied for a patent last November. They have already commercialized the signs, which are now being used in 46 stations in the Tokyo metro subway system.
