CSK Systems of Tokyo and the Nishinippon Shimbun jointly conducted a trial multimedia broadcast in the lobby of the Fukuoka City offices. In multimedia broadcasting, digital data is broadcast in the open frequency bands concurrently with a terrestrial digital broadcast. In the experiment, the broadcast was received using special equipment, the data accumulated, and distributed by wireless LAN. The increase in the number of free video services on the net has resulted in large quantities of data transmitted. This is expected to exceed the capacity of most transmission circuits in the near future, so multimedia broadcasting is attracting attention as a way to transmit large amounts of data without using those circuits.
