Record High Number of Foreign Entrants to Kyushu in 2010

The Kyushu District Transport Bureau reports that 999,292 foreigners entered the country through Kyushu air and sea ports in 2010, a record high. The target of bureau and tourism promotion organizations was one million, a goal that was essentially reached. The higher total was attributed to the number of Chinese cruise ships calling on Kyushu ports. It was significantly higher than 598,000 who arrived in 2009, a figure depressed by the global influenza epidemic and the rapid depreciation of the won.
