The Fukuoka branch of Tokyo Shokoh Research released its rankings of companies in the construction industry in Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture for calendar year 2009. Those companies with sales of more than five billion yen totaled 96, a decline of 11 from the previous year. It was the first time fewer than 100 companies had recorded that amount of revenue since 1989. Aggregate revenue for the companies was 1.4813 trillion yen, down 8.3% from the year-before period. It was also the first time in 20 years that aggregate revenue was less than 1.5 trillion yen.
