Metal pedestrian-protection barriers along a road in Kitakyushu’s Yahatanishi Ward were found missing on November 5 after a resident reported the disappearance. Officials confirmed that barriers across three locations had been removed, totaling 63 meters. The securing bolts—258 in all—were also taken. The city estimates the loss at about 250,000 yen and believes the metal was stolen for resale. A police report was filed, and patrols around the area were increased.
