The Veda International Robot R&D Center in Munakata, Fukuoka Prefecture, began operation to become the first facility in Japan for developing robots for use in medical treatment and long-term care. It is being operated by a venture capital-backed company in cooperation with 10 organizations, including university research institutes both in Japan and abroad. The Japanese universities include Waseda, Kyushu University, and the Kyushu Institute of Technology. The overseas research institutes are in Italy and Germany. The center will work on projects for corporations and government, as well as submit its own proposals for research.
