Rookie Pitcher Carter Stewart Signs Big Contract with Softbank Hawks

Fukuoka Softbank Hawks newest team member Carter Stewart expressed his excitement to start his professional baseball career in Japan at a press conference on June 3. The 19-year-old pitcher, who throws at approximately 160 km/h, was selected by the Atlanta Braves in last year’s draft in the US. However, negotiations didn’t reach an agreement due to a wrist injury. As a player who is highly rated in the US, Carter made a rare decision to debut in Japan. The six-year deal is expected to be worth ¥760 million. The Florida-native newcomer will wear the number 2 and will join the team’s training on June 5. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 6/3/2019
