Saga Prefecture and South Korea’s Jeollanam-do signed a friendship agreement, which Saga Gov. Yasushi Furukawa called the first step for the prefecture’s Asian diplomacy. Jeollanam-do Gov. Park Joon-yung said he believed the agreement help promote ties between the two countries, not just the two regions. It is the first such friendship agreement with a foreign local government for Saga Prefecture.
