A new natural park honoring American biologist, Rachel Carson, opened in Miyako Town of Fukuoka. The Irahara Shizen Taiken Shisetsu (Irahara Natural Experience Facility) stands next to Irahara Dam, of which the construction involved the relocation of over-eighty houses. Developments of the new facilities reflected the minds of former residents to leave something valuable for children. A cottage with a stone oven recreates Rahcel’s villa’s atmosphere in Maine, and the waterside and forest areas reproduce the world of “The Sense of Wonder.” A 90-m2 wooden lodge with a fireplace is also suitable for meetings and educational classes.
