SoftBank HAWKS Pitcher Martinez Wins First MVP

On June 9, Nicholas Martínez won the first monthly MVP award of his career as a professional baseball player in Japan. The pitcher was the starter in five of the team’s May games and marked an ERA of 1.97, for the best record in the league. His performance also earned four wins and 34 strike-outs during the month. At an online press conference, Martínez said that the news of the award was such an honor to him and thanked his catcher, Kai, and other teammates. He was the first MVP of the month by an international player of SoftBank since August 2017. The SoftBank HAWKS have produced special items such as T-shirts to commemorate the achievement.
