Every year from January to March, many Japanese pro baseball and soccer teams hold spring training in Miyazaki Prefecture. This year, volcanic eruptions at Kirishima and Mt. Shinmoe caused several teams to move the location of their camps, including six soccer teams, which resulted in a 31% year-on-year decline in sports tourists to 432,000, it was recently learned. This reduced by roughly one-third the amount of revenue the prefecture receives from tourism.
