A national council for squid fishermen called for fishing boats to be idled nationwide on the 18th and 19th due to rising fuel costs. The local councils throughout Kyushu and Yamaguchi prefecture complied with the request, and 1,800 ships from the region stayed in port on those days. This was expected to have an impact on restaurants who serve squid on the menu.
