More people participated in tourism activities in Fukuoka during the 2021 Golden Week holidays, compared to the previous year. JR Kyushu announced on May 6 that the number of passengers on its trains and shinkansen between Apr. 28 ~ May 5 was seven times larger than last year. Starflyer also reported around a 760% increase in the number of passengers on its flights between Apr. 29 ~ May 5. However, these standards remain as low as around 30% of the pre-coronavirus times. Also, an NHK research revealed that the number of people who visited the neighboring area of JR Hakata Station on May 5 surpassed 700% of that on the same day in 2020. The number of people who visited Fukuoka from Tokyo and Osaka during the holidays also doubled from last year (visitors from Tokyo: +153%/ from Osaka: +114%.) The average number of visitors to places such as JR Hakata Station, Fukuoka Airport, Tenjin Station grew to 2~3 times from last year. At the same time, growths were relatively moderate at other tourist spots, including Nakasu and Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
