TSMC Sparks Kumamoto AI Plans

On October 23rd, Toshihiko Tanaka, Chairman of the Kumamoto Prefecture Industrial Association, presented policy recommendations to Governor Ikuo Kabashima. The suggestions come as TSMC’s new semiconductor factory in Kikuyo Town nears completion. The recommendations propose using AI to manage traffic congestion and strategies to secure domestic and international talent. The plan also aims to address labor shortages and increase productivity through digital transformation, as well as use semiconductors in new developments across various sectors including healthcare and agriculture. Tanaka called TSMC’s new factory a “once in a century” opportunity and aims for collaboration with government and academia. Similar recommendations were made to the Mayor of Kumamoto City.
