The Kaho Theater in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, a kabuki theater built in the design of those facilities during the Edo period, has held a series of unusual annual events to commemorate its restoration following extensive flood damage in July 2003. These have included barbecues and paper airplane contests from the stage. This year’s events are scheduled to be held on July 18 and 19. There will be bowling contests on the hanamichi, or elevated walkway that runs from the stage to the rear of the theater, and the children will be able to camp out overnight in the box seats.
