The celebrate the 100th anniversary of the traditional Yachiyoza Playhouse in Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture, directors are formulating a plan to present modern dance performances that recreate the venue’s atmosphere in five European countries starting this summer. They are working with stage technicians from Spain to create an event that incorporates Japanese popular culture. The plans also call for the recreation of Yachiyoza’s distinctive stage devices.
