The Yamaga Municipal Gas Co. in Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture has successfully refined biogas (high purity methane gas) from the fermenting gas of livestock excreta for use in the home. The Japan Gas Association says it is the first time this has ever been done in Japan. Gas Company President Kiyohiro Okamoto says he hopes the utility will be able to supply the gas throughout the city in five years.
