The results of the Itoshima City mayoral elections were announced, with independent candidate Yuji Tsukigata re-elected for a second term after receiving 20,900 votes on a 57.18% turnout. Itoshima City Council member Tetsuro Takahashi finished second with 17,553 votes. Mr. Tsukigata was first elected to the position four years ago after initially serving three terms as a member of the Fukuoka Prefectural Legislative Assembly. During the election campaign, Mr. Tsukigata promised to promote local agricultural produce, create new jobs, and establish housing to meet the demands of students at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus. He has also expressed his desire to strengthen the Itoshima brand, see the population of the city increase, and for the area to become more livable during his next four years in office.
