The central government has announced that Osaka will host the 2019 G20 summit next year. However the meeting of the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors will be held in Fukuoka City. Both Fukuoka Prefecture and Aichi Prefecture were in contention to host the main summit, but Osaka was chosen due to its abundance of luxury hotels and close proximity to airports. In contrast, Fukuoka was not seen to have enough top-end facilities available to accommodate all the participating heads of state. The international forum is scheduled to take place between late June and early July 2019. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 2/20/2018
