During the Edo period, Akamajuku thrived as a bustling post town along the Karatsu Kaido. Today, its historic charm is preserved with many traditional merchant houses, including sake breweries, still lining Akamajuku Street. On festival days, this street transforms into a lively pedestrian haven, bustling with various stalls and live stage events. Visitors can also explore ancient private homes, typically closed to the public, free of charge. Adding to the cultural experience, Katsuya Sake Brewery, a local sake producer, opens its doors for a special event where guests can sample new brews and purchase limited-edition sakes.
