Saga-born illustrator Chika Miyata presents a solo exhibition of new drawings and ceramic works. Known for her work in magazines, books, advertising, apparel, and collaborations with Hasami ware, Miyata has built an international following, with her book Oekaki Jiten (The Drawing Dictionary) translated into 11 languages.
The exhibition features drawings and ceramic sculptures inspired by things Miyata felt compelled to create amid the quiet passage of everyday life. Her relaxed linework and gently whimsical motifs have a lighthearted charm—objects that may not be essential, but can brighten the day simply by being there. The ceramic works, created over the course of a year, were made with the hope that each might become someone’s lucky charm. It’s a quietly uplifting exhibition, best enjoyed at a leisurely pace in a small gallery in Chiyo.
