This small-group program uses the Japanese tea ceremony as an introduction to everyday customs and etiquette, offering more than matcha and sweets. Limited to eight participants, each two-hour session combines an instructor’s tea preparation demonstration and an introduction to the history of the tea ceremony with practical lessons in manners, making it accessible to beginners.
Participants learn how to remove their shoes, open sliding fusuma doors, walk on tatami, exchange greetings, handle chopsticks, and enjoy tea and sweets—customs that also extend into daily life.
The session ends with participants working in pairs, taking turns preparing usucha (thin matcha) and being the guest. Cultural exchange is another central theme, with participants from different countries sharing the experience while learning about one another’s customs and cultures.
