This February, Hakataza Theater proudly presents an extraordinary kabuki performance starring the renowned Matsumoto Koshiro alongside Ichikawa Somegoro, who graces the Hakataza stage for the first time. The highlight of this event is the much-acclaimed adaptation of Edogawa Ranpo’s “The Leopard Man,” a project Koshiro passionately developed over a decade, culminating in its 2008 debut as a contemporary kabuki masterpiece. This performance skillfully intertwines classical kabuki techniques like rapid costume transformations and aerial stunts, with the enchanting and mysterious world of Ranpo. These performances also mark the kabuki debut of the delightful dance drama “The Cormorant Lord,” a playful portrayal of feudal lords whimsically engaging in cormorant fishing, adding a touch of humor and historical whimsy to the show.
