Every year, from late March to early April, Maizuru Park, a renowned cherry blossom destination in Fukuoka City, comes alive with the breathtaking beauty of approximately 1,000 cherry trees, showcasing varieties such as Somei Yoshino and Shidarezakura. The park hosts the annual Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival, which this year spans 14 days starting from March 27. Throughout the festival, from dawn till dusk, the area buzzes with visitors who come to admire the flowers, complemented by around 70 gourmet food stalls and kitchen cars set up from 11 a.m. around Korokan Square and Sannomaru Plaza.
A special feature of this year’s festival is the “Illusive Tenshukaku” illumination, where a temporary structure, evoking the image of the castle’s tower, is installed atop the tenshudai (castle tower base). This installation creates a mesmerizing vision of the castle tower floating against the night sky.
Additionally, the Sakura Orchard, Tamon Turret, and Otaka Residence areas are transformed into a magical night time scene from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., where the cherry blossoms and historical landmarks are beautifully lit up. These areas become ticketed zones (¥600 for one site, ¥1,500 for all three), offering visitors the chance to indulge in the enchanting atmosphere crafted with sophisticated lighting and music, enhancing the experience of nighttime cherry blossom viewing.
