Hakata Summer Festival 2026
~

Held in the plaza in front of JR Hakata Station, Hakata Summer Festival is an annual city-center event that brings the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese summer festival to Hakata. Now in its eighth year, the festival centers on a yagura tower, with Bon dancing, taiko performances, food stalls, and fairground-style games filling the plaza.

Bon dances take place every evening, featuring everything from the classic Tanko Bushi to routines set to pop songs, making it easy for both children and adults to join in. Food and drink stalls serve yakisoba, takoyaki, fried chicken, shaved ice, beer, and shochu, while attractions include yo-yo fishing, target shooting, and succulent scooping. After dark, an approximately 8-meter lantern tower lights up the plaza, creating a distinctly festive summer atmosphere in front of Hakata Station. The event offers an easy way to experience a Japanese summer festival, whether stopping by after work or visiting in a yukata.
