A popular annual event brings together some of Fukuoka’s favorite bakeries along the approach to Hakozaki Shrine (Hakozaki-gu). Stalls are lined with each shop’s freshly baked breads, filling the grounds with a warm, toasty aroma. Notable local drink vendors also set up alongside sweets and light bites, drawing not only bread lovers but also those with an interest in crafts and local culture.
Programs inspired by “Hakozaki Shima,” a cotton textile long produced in the Hakozaki area, are another highlight. In addition to exhibitions and sales of Fukuoka textiles such as Kurume Kasuri, workshops offer hands-on experiences including making kasuri button brooches and trying silk-screen printing. Centered on food and craftsmanship, it’s a day to enjoy while strolling the shrine approach.
