Fukuoka Asian Art Museum presents a major exhibition drawn from its extensive holdings of modern and contemporary Asian art, with a focus on works shaped by the influence of folk traditions. Selected from a collection of over 5,700 pieces, approximately 50 works are featured by artists who weave elements of daily life and cultural heritage into striking contemporary expressions. Expect intricate uses of fabric, thread, embroidery, rattan, and paper-cutting—showcasing both refined craftsmanship and bold, original design.
The exhibition unfolds across four thematic sections. It begins with scenes of celebration and festival in Asian life, moves into a showcase of traditional craft techniques, transitions through a space of light and shadow, and culminates in a forest of quiet contemplation. Together, the works explore how artists across Asia have drawn on everyday practices to envision and reimagine the future—offering a collection that is both deeply rooted and forward-looking.
