Itoshima is rich in sea bream! Known for boasting one of Japan’s top-class catch volumes of red sea bream, Itoshima will host the Itoshima Red Sea Bream Fair to coincide with the lifting of the fishing ban. When the fishing ban period from January to April ends, Itoshima begins the Itoshima Red Sea Bream Fair to celebrate the arrival of the red sea bream season, using fresh red sea bream caught by the traditional “Gochiami fishing” method where nets are pulled.
At 20 restaurants in Itoshima, you can enjoy a variety of red sea bream dishes featuring “Itoshima’s wild red sea bream.” These include standard menu items like sashimi, simmered dishes, and salt-grilled fish, as well as diverse offerings such as tai-meshi (sea bream rice), sea bream sandwiches, and sea bream ramen. Take-away items like sea bream preserved in olive oil and “Itoshima Sea Bream Miso” planned by JF Itoshima are also popular as souvenirs.
