Japanese Cuisine Cooking Classes in Hakata Old Town

START: Jul 28, 2023 END: Aug 13, 2023

In the historic district of Hakata Old Town, cooking classes centered on traditional Japanese cuisine are being held. These classes, which also offer a unique cultural experience, are not only open to international visitors to Fukuoka, but also to local Japanese residents.

Participants in these cooking classes can look forward to a variety of engaging programs. There is the ‘Dashi Class’ where they will master the fundamentals of Japanese cuisine, learning to draw out flavors from various ingredients like kelp and bonito, and then comparing these tastes. Reflecting Hakata’s heritage as the origin of udon and soba noodles, there is also a hands-on class where attendees can make the region’s special ‘Gobo Tempura Udon’ from scratch. Other options include a ‘Home Cooking Class’ where they can recreate dishes commonly consumed in Hakata households, and workshops for hand-making Hakata ramen, gyoza, and even traditional Japanese sweets. The classes are divided into two sessions: one beginning at 10:00 and another at 14:00, with the ability to choose the preferred menu. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue itself.
